ONE WEEK FROM TODAY: Syracuse Style to Showcase Fall Fashions, Featuring Downtown Retailers & Hair Salons to Celebrate Downtown as a Retail Destination
Thursday, September 7, 2017
Syracuse, NY – Next Thursday, the 100-block of Walton Street in Armory Square will become an 80-foot lighted runway to host the seventh annual presentation of Syracuse Style. Co-produced by the Downtown Committee of Syracuse, Inc. and Syracuse Fashion Week, the runway fashion show is free to attend and starts promptly at 7:30 pm.
Organizers expect more than 1,000 people to watch as the latest fall fashion styles in apparel, jewelry, accessories, eyewear for men women and children are revealed. New this year, superhero costumes and tattoos will also be featured. Nearly 100 men, women and child models will “strut their stuff,” showcasing fall fashion and style from more than one dozen Downtown Syracuse retailers. The fashion show is a display of Downtown teamwork; Behind the scenes, four Downtown hair salons provide hair and makeup styling for the models. A list of all participating retailers, including a comic book store, tattoo parlor, boutiques and salons, is provided below.
With a tent covering the runway, the show goes on rain or shine. Although the event is free to attend, there are a select number of VIP tickets available. For $50, the VIP tickets grant attendees front-row access to the runway. Those who purchase VIP tickets are also invited to an exclusive, pre-show party at Empire Brewing Company starting at 6:00 pm. VIP party attendees will enjoy a craft beer beverage of their choice, passed hors d’oeuvres and have access to food stations serving up a fashionable feast. Guests may also purchase street seat high-top tables of four for $175. Positioned along the runway, the street seat high-top tables include complimentary beverages and hors d’oeuvres. The VIP and street seat high-top table tickets may be purchased through CNYTix.com, and will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis at the door of Empire Brewing Co. on the night of the show. Keeping with Syracuse Style Fashion Show tradition, all proceeds from VIP tickets and street seat high-tops will benefit the Food Bank of Central New York.
Organizers are pleased to welcome back CBS 5’s Michael Benny as the emcee of the 2017 edition of Syracuse Style. For planning purposes, Walton Street will close to traffic at 2:00 pm next Thursday, to allow for set-up.
“We hope the community will come out to watch the Syracuse Style Fashion Show to experience the creativity of local designers and retailers, and sample the vast variety of our Downtown’s retail offerings,” said Merike Treier, executive director of the Downtown Committee. “The line-up of clothing retailers, designers, and speciality boutiques is a showcase of all of the elements that make Downtown Syracuse stand out as a retail destination in Central New York. The community can check out the styles, then come back this holiday season to find unique, one-of-a-kind gifts for the fashionistas on their shopping lists.”
“For seven years, Syracuse Style has enlivened Walton Street in such a way that Downtown Syracuse takes on a New York City feel,” said Lisa Butler, executive director of Syracuse Fashion Week. “This stunning, visual tradition is the premier fashion event in Syracuse. Syracuse Style introduces Central New Yorkers to high-quality fashion, while blending commerce and creativity, art and business. You don’t want to miss this!”
Last year, the event drew 1,000 spectators. The event has been recognized by the International Downtown Association as a program that has improved the image and vitality of our Downtown, while attracting visitors.
