Partners in Planting Program Continues to Grow in 2016 Season
Thursday, June 16, 2016
Syracuse, NY- Thursday afternoon, a group of 15 employees from The Bonadio Group joined the Downtown Committee of Syracuse, Inc. to combine employee engagement with downtown beautification efforts. The group met in the heart of Hanover Square at 2:00 pm on Thursday, June 16, to plant 480 flowers to bring new vibrancy to one of Downtown’s most popular business and residential neighborhoods. The group planted petunias in planters lined up around the Hanover Square fountain before spreading out to conquer planters fronting Clinton Square on West Genesee Street and Perseverance Park on Salina Street.
The Partners in Planting Program was developed in 2015 as a way to bolster pride and engage downtown employees in the neighborhoods they work in. By transforming downtown’s landscape through beautification and clean-up efforts, participants give back to the community by showing they’re invested in the quality of life Downtown Syracuse presents. This afternoon’s beautification efforts throughout Hanover Square - along with Young Leaders United’s work along Washington and Warren Streets and in M. Lemp Park earlier this month - help ensure Downtown Syracuse is attractive and welcoming to residents, employees and visitors.
This season, the Partners in Planting Program is a partnership between The Bonadio Group, Young Leaders United, Pioneer Companies and the Downtown Committee.
“Planting flowers and participating in clean-up efforts may seem like simple gestures, but they’re big symbols of commitment,” said Merike Treier, executive director of the Downtown Committee. “We’re grateful to have the commitment and support that The Bonadio Group, Young Leaders United and Pioneer Companies have demonstrated in the form of planted pride for their Downtown neighborhoods. Their efforts to encourage walkability and present a welcoming streetscape for visitors leaves a visible impact. Thanks to their hard work, Downtown Syracuse stands out as an attractive destination.”
“The Bonadio Group is proud to participate in this year’s Partners in Planting Initiative,” said Donald Taylor, managing partner of Bonadio’s Syracuse Office. “Downtown Syracuse is truly a beautiful place to live, work and visit. Our team is excited to help ensure it remains vibrant and welcoming this summer season.”
While the 2016 season was the first time The Bonadio Group participated in the Partners in Planting Program, Young Leaders United, a division of the United Way, and Pioneer Companies are veteran participants. Young Leaders United returned for a second season to beautify M. Lemp Park and plant four flower beds at the intersection of Washington and Warren Streets.
“Young Leaders United volunteers couldn’t wait to come back for a second year and help out with this great project,” said Marianne Ferris, Director of Resource & Leadership Development at the United Way of Central New York. “This group is committed to this place they call home and take great pride in giving back to their community. In many ways, this project is a perfect fit for Young Leaders United, whose motto is to connect with like-minded members at networking and social events, learn from experienced community leaders and executives through our Community and Leadership Education series, and serve as volunteers in projects that make our community a better place.”
