Syracuse, NY – The Downtown Committee of Syracuse has launched an exciting new project that activates the streetscape along the 300 and 400 blocks of South Salina Street. Throughout December, Pre-K classrooms in local schools have channeled their creativity to produce Student Art in Downtown Syracuse. As you stroll down South Salina Street, you can delight in festive artwork contributed by over 15 classrooms, showcasing their talents to bring life to vacant storefronts. This initiative highlights the impacts of collaboration among the Downtown Committee, building owners, and the community.
“We have had families already go and visit our classes’ artwork and have reported the excitement from their child in seeing their art out in the community,” remarked Miss Renee from Catholic Charities, one of the participating schools.
The colorful displays not only infuse the heart of the city with vibrancy and joy, but they also cultivate a sense of pride and connection among residents. The imaginative creations by these young artists range from whimsical winter scenes to abstract representations of holiday cheer, each reflecting the limitless creativity of children. Beyond enhancing the streetscape, this initiative encourages children to view their work as part of a larger narrative that celebrates community involvement and the transformative power of art in public spaces.
“This project also serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of nurturing the artistic talents and voices of future generations, ensuring that the city remains a vibrant and inclusive environment for all community members,” said Merike Treier, Executive Director of the Downtown Committee.
As the holiday season unfolds, the artwork on Salina St. stands as a symbol of creativity and unity, inviting everyone to experience the magic of Downtown Syracuse in a refreshing new light. We invite you to visit these artworks on display through the end of January, during your next trip to Downtown Syracuse.
