M&T Bank Syracuse Arts & Crafts Festival Recognized Among Top Art & Craft Shows in America

Syracuse, NY – This week, the recently concluded Syracuse Arts & Crafts Festival, presented by the Downtown Committee of Syracuse and M&T Bank, received national recognition with a ranking of #11 on a list of the “200 Best” contemporary craft shows in the United States by national trade publication, Sunshine Artist Magazine. The honor is especially significant because it comes from the participating artists who vote for their favorite shows, based on potential revenue, while considering factors including amenities, attendance, management, overall quality and hospitality.

“We are honored to be recognized among the top 200 best art shows in the country and to rank 11 on that list is especially exciting!” said Merike Treier, Executive Director of the Downtown Committee of Syracuse, Inc. “This recognition is a testament to the focus our team places on executing this annual event and the incredible support it receives from our community. This festival is so important to Downtown Syracuse as it shines a spotlight on our city center as a place that is rich in arts and culture.”

“What this tells us is that there is a strong market for quality art and contemporary crafts in this area,” added Laurie Reed, Festival Director.  “A good percentage of the artists who participate, recognize this and return year after year.  We are also able to recruit new artists to the show each year who learn quickly how receptive the Syracuse audience is.  It reinforces our commitment to continuing the program.”

The M&T Bank Syracuse Arts & Crafts Festival is the longest-running festival in Downtown Syracuse, and a favorite family tradition in Central New York. It began in 1971 as a street festival on Salina Street.  In 1978, the Downtown Committee of Syracuse took over the operation and moved it to the Columbus Circle area, where it remains today.  It attracts as many as 30,000 people each year. Dates Set for Next Year: The Syracuse Arts & Crafts Festival will return to Downtown Syracuse Friday, July 26 through Sunday, July 28, 2024.
